Hypnosis for Childbirth - HypnoBirthing®
HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique for achieving a calm, relaxing, and rewarding
birth. It is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world in an atmosphere of calm
and joy, and that severe pain does not have to be a natural accompaniment to birthing.
HypnoBirthing® was founded in 1991 by Marie F. Mongan. It combines the best of several natural childbirth
techniques with the power of hypnosis, guided imagery, and visualization. Mothers trained in HypnoBirthing®
learn how to access a deep state of relaxation which allows their body to work more efficiently with the birthing
process.
Hypnosis is an evidence-based pain management technique and HypnoBirthing® mothers often find
they are able to reduce or eliminate the need for pain medications as they feel more comfortable, safe, and in control.
It is well documented that mothers trained in HypnoBirthing® often shorten the birthing process by
3-5 hours!
